The Olive-Egger thread!

@ronott1 , my patience has finally paid off! One of my Isbar x FBCM pullet laid her first eggs over the past couple of days. Decent olive color with spots. Would like a little deeper color, but am happy with the color for now. Also in the picture, one of my black tailed buff marans first eggs over the past couple of days. For comparison I put in an egg from one of my NNs and a store bought white egg.

Those are very nice eggs!

Patience pays off!

How exciting for you! Absolutely love the variety of color!!
I can't wait to add in some marans to my flock. Dark brown eggs and hopefully darker green olive eggs on some F2's.

Here is today's laying...
New Hampshire, marans/barred rock cross, marans/oliver crosses, olivers, and an ameraucana cross.

I have a bunch of these in the incubator, from two different Roos. Should be some interesting babies.

The Marans eggs seem really light. Is it the lighting? Eggs are just SO hard to photograph!

They are Marans crosses, so not as dark as purebreds. I do have one that lays a really dark brick red egg, and another almost as dark with nice speckles. I'm planning to cross them back to both my Marans roos (blue copper and cuckoo) this season. Right now they have been crossed with my Ameraucana roo to see how olive they might get.

I've tried to hatch Marans twice with shipped eggs from really good lines, but had crummy results so far. I got a great roo, but only one pullet that is not laying much this winter. My 2nd try netted one cockerel and one pullet, but they are only a month or so old. I have a better incubator now, but I kind of want to work with what I have rather than keep buying 'foreign' eggs.

I hatched my first two F2 OE chickss. They are from BCMxEE pullet crossed back to a BCM cockeral
Here is the cockeral and pullet (in the middle)

Eggs they hatched from

And the 2 newest babies F2 OE(the 2 chicks to the left, the one on right is a BCM)

I cant wait to see what color they lay(if pullets

) Depending on the egg color my plan is to cross the F2s back to my Cream Legbar cockerel.
