The Olive-Egger thread!

If you all don't mind me asking....how much are olivers bringing now a days? Let's just say that I had a pullet that just started laying nice olive eggs, what would be a fair price?
I have NEVER thought about selling mine until recently. And do you know why? ...... I have too many chickens!!
:th
Thanx in advance.

I sell Olive Egger chicks for $5 a chick, known young not yet laying pullets for about $10-$15. I sell Laying pullets for $20-25 each.

That's about what we sell out chickens for when we have too many. Laying hens about 15-20 though we are usually selling our chickens that are 1-1.5 years old to make room for the next hatch.

Are these olive eggers? Or any breed?
Sorry, any breed.

Olive eggers are basically mutts and you are not guaranteed what you will get out of a cross. I imagine the other post would be more applicable to your question. Like anything, you can get whatever people are willing to pay :). I tend to sell on the cheaper side so that I move them quick.

My current olive egger projects are a work in progress. Once I get some consistent stock that breeds true I would up the price if there is still enough market. One thing you'll notice about both brown and blue eggs is that the more eggs a chicken lays the lighter the color, so selecting only for egg color can leave you with some less than productive birds. My first F1 cross of my olive egger chickens gave me a hen that lays an egg every single day for the past month. I am hoping for similar results from the second cross that I will breed back to her and select for even darker eggs.

The middle eggs are about week 2 of laying. They are next to a XL white egg from a White Leghorn and large brown egg from a Red Star.

Thanks! I am thinking that I would only sell them as olivers after they have indeed proven to be one, which would increase the price....right?

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this sort of bloom on their dark olive layers eggs. This is a blue/green shell, with pigment layer over it plus the blueish bloom. The same hen lays the egg in the previous pic I posted which is far left and centre row :)

That is an interesting color. If you wash the egg do you end up washing the bloom off revealing the same color green at the top?

I have had brown egg laying chickens that can have a fairly heavy bloom so it would be the same as that essentially just that you are covering brown over blue instead of just over brown.
