Okay. "Pat" the Olive Egger (Marans x Marans/CCL) is 9 weeks old today. We still haven't a clue. The comb is the palest of pale pinks.

Anybody want to guess again on gender?

How are the saddle and hackle feathers looking? Pointy or round?

I'm not seeing any pointy saddle feathers. Pat's a fluffy mess.

She is very pretty!

I hope she got the blue egg shell gene. if so, she will lay very pretty eggs!

Note: Should be barred if male from the Cream Legbar mom and there would be red hackle feather by now form the Marans. The comb and wattles are female too. Both CCLs and Marans have big old boy combs by now.

I've been trying not to get too attached just in case, well, you know....surprise roo! But, dang, Pat is just a sweetheart! Really likes people attention.

the cross will yield some white shelled egg layers. It gets very hard to continue with keeping it since there is the introduction of of the recessive white gene. If a chick gets both white shell genes, then you will get a brown egg.

I hope she lays an Olive colored egg too!

Question on crosses, if someone could help.if I crossed a CL rooster with a blue copper Marans hen: what colored offspring would I get?
I'm assuming they'd be sex linked since it's a barred over a solid. Is that correct?
And my OE Marans /am just started laying!! Pics to come shortly
