The Olive-Egger thread!

They are very pretty and

look at those eggs!

Wow, beautiful eggs. And I am in love with the black hen! I have four Black Copper Marans eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch on Saturday. I hope to get one (or maybe two) nice olive egger pullets out of them. If one of them looks like your black hen I'll think I've won the lottery!

So, we have two EE's sisters that, disappointingly, lay lightly tinted (brown) eggs. Can anyone tell me what the odds are of having Olive Egger offspring when crossed to one of our BCM roos?
Here's Cleveland Brown ... her sister looks identical but is almost solid black.

Thanks,

dScott

They will not make olive egg laying hens. The blue egg shell gene is dominant so your girls only have two recessive white egg shell genes each.

Green is a blue egg shell coated with dark brown. Blue + brown-green

Thank you very much for the explanation Ron. I was really hoping that at least a portion of their offspring would lay blue/green. Fascinating stuff... I'll cull and replace these two girls in the near future.

Cheers,
dScott
