The Olive-Egger thread!

Walked into one of the coops today and one of my young OE's (hopefully, she's not yet laying) jumped onto my shoulder. She is the friendliest chicken I've ever had. The strangest part to me is that her dad turned out to be very mean. I bred him before realizing that when he was pretty young. He became chicken soup later. Both chicks from him are very sweet pullets though. No roos. I was worried they might inherit his temperament, but nope! I usually sell the hens that turn out to lay brown eggs, but this one's a keeper no matter what.
Pretty hen! Sometimes I think there is a fine line between mean/aggressive and ultra curious/interactive. I got rid of a roo that bit a hole in my leg, but I love the pullet I hatched from crossing him. I don't always name my chickens, but I refer to her as "bold girl". She is very curious, and if I try to use my hands to herd her indoors at the end of the day, she will chest bump my hand. She's a funny chicken.

I had one hen who was more aggressive than any rooster I have ever had. If you went to pet or pick her up, or even pet other hens she would grab onto your skin and try to tear it. I named her chicken fajita, because if it wasn't for her laying beautiful olive eggs 7 days/week she would have been dinner. Her daughter and son are actually friendly/curious, her brother was a friendly handsome rooster. Sadly both Chicken Fajita and her brother were taken by a raccoon - who later met his maker for how many times he broke into the coop even after I thought it was predator proof!

Love the name Chicken Fajita! Wow, I've never heard of such a mean hen. My sweet girl seems to be rubbing off on other chickens in her coop. I have several now who walk up and talk to me or fly onto my shoulder every time I enter. They're actually becoming somewhat of a nuisance. It's hard not to step on them!

My Ams are like that too...I wonder if it's an Ameraucana thing? Both sisters will jump on anyone that spends enough time in the coop to get sighted. The ONLY hens I've stepped on or accidently kicked while walking are those two. Funny girls!
