The Olive-Egger thread!


These are my nov. 16/17 hatched chicks, (4 went to another lady) top pic 4 white LH/EE hens, one RIR/EE Roo, one RIR hen, one frizzle red/buff hen, and I am excited about the bearded blue roo at the bottom of pic...

This is Bluebelle, She is not in the upper pic,

A couple birds yond the white roo.u didn't see in pics were a white/splash/barred frizzle, a black bird, and a white roo.

Wao they are just gorgeous. Pretty big for 5 weeks. Love them

Okay, so even though the shell is porous, it doesn't hurt to use a sharpie? The last thing I need are chicks hatching with a moustache!!!!!!
I've used the sharpie with no problem. I've also used the sharpie and pencil while they were under a chicken. That didn't work at all it rubs off from the hen. Crayon may not rub off. I may try crayon next time I let chickens hatch.

Has anyone tried a wax pencil (the type used when marking glass)? It seems like that might work...

I have a cockeral that started as a dark brown chick with a white chest splash who has grown out to be a Chocolate Silver Duckwing Olive Egger. He is from a Maran/EE or Am cross and F2 generation. But I just noticed today that his earlobes are PINK! Comb and wattles all the normal red but he has pink earlobes. Have any of you seen pink earlobes before. I will try to get a picture tomorrow.
