The Olive-Egger thread!

I am trying to figure out what to cross from my flock to get olive eggs without ending up with all black chicks!
I have a splash Isbar that lays a beautiful green egg.
Would crossing her with a black copper Marans throw black chicks or would they be blue?

You would get blue chicks. You could use cuckoo marans or golden cuckoos as well to get non black ones as well

I'm pretty sure it's part black copper Marans and I think the other part is ameraucana

That is the cross I was told my two Olive Eggers are. Here is a pic of Cleo.

Not a great picture, sorry. She's a reliable layer, almost daily, but slowing down to every other day now that the days are shorter; I don't supplement lighting. Virtually no eggs over the winter. She has the lovely beetle green/purple iridescent feathers in the sun with just a touch of copper on her neck and has a wonky comb. She did go broody a couple of times, so I bought some fertile eggs for her to hatch. Two hatched successfully and she was a good mother. My avatar is eggs from her and her half sister. No pic of her though cuz she looks like a naked neck right now since she's been decorating the backyard with feathers.

Have fun! Enjoy your green eggs and ham. (I personally prefer bacon.) :)

These are my Ameraucana Marans...I think. My records show I hatched 7 ameraucanas and 3 Olive eggers from WF, but I think I counted 11 birds in my flock that look like AM or AM/CM. I know the Roo is AM/BC because he looks AM but has feathered legs. And I have 2 black hens that look AM but have copper heads. Heck, at this point I'm a little loss on who is who, lol. Here are some pics.

yes there is a way and its rather easy.. you see this F1 cross are e+/eb, e+(wildtype salmon breast from CCL) eb(non salmon breast from wyandotte) and as you can see e+ is Dominant over eb as making e+/eb pullets keep their salmon breast... so how to go about bringing more wyandotte blood(body type, size, comb) while keeping the Salmon breast? thats easy.. cross any of the F1s cross back to Wyandotte(gold/silver laced) and select the pullets that have the salmon breast, this pullets will be e+/eb but only 50% of the pullets will have this salmon breast as the other 50% will be pure for eb/eb, and at this stage you can only use the pullets with salmon breast to cross back to Wyandotte, thats because the e+/eb males look identical to eb/eb males.... so keep the salmon breast females and keep breeding them back to GLW Easy.....
Thank you soooooo much for this post! I found it after I had already crossed my CL rooster with a GLW hen. Between this and this post

I'm ecstatic to find that this cross produces chicks that I could sex at hatch. I hatched 2 males and 2 females. One of the two females has the salmon breast.

Salmon breasted female I plan on breeding her back to a Cream Legbar rooster. I'm hoping for mint green egg layers. Out of curiosity would this produce chicks that are sexable at hatch?
