I love theses!!!!!!@southernhusky Here are some eggs that my Marans/Ameraucana crosses are laying now. They range quite a bit from light green to olive and the only way to now for sure who laid the egg was to watch the chicken push it out LOL. I have an easter egger that lays the exact same shade of green as some of my half Marans girls. It's crazy, but it all depends on how many and which of the 13 brown egg genes they get from their Marans parent. A hint.... if you want a more intense olive color layer, cross one of the half breed chicks back to Marans (it can be the chick's parent) and about half of the chicks should give you that awesome olive green shade.

They is Arbequina (photo is when she was 16 weeks - she started laying at 21 weeks), my pretty little olive egger girl who lays lovely olive-colored eggs. I got her from Eight Acres - cross of wheaten ameraucana and marans, with a second generation cross with dark layer, I think.

Nice! Of my two OEs, one has been laying fairly consistently most days. The 2nd one molted a bit later and is still on strike. It's been cold here, but no snow on the ground like you. BRRRRRR!Almost 2 year old came back into lay after molt...before solstice....may not start supplemental lighting after all, just to see what happens. I suspected but got proof today, hot one right off the presses!! Wonders if it has anything to do with the fact that she was hatched by a broody in a frigid early February 2015?
Thanks! Alas, all the blue egg layers are on strike at the moment, so I don't have the variety as much any more, but the OE and marans pullets are back to laying like champs!
Wow! My OE lays smaller eggs, though she went into lay early and has laid very well and consistently (except for a break when she got fowl pox). I'm hoping these traits carry on through maturity as well...Almost 2 year old came back into lay after molt...before solstice....may not start supplemental lighting after all, just to see what happens.

Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
