The Olive-Egger thread!

Would the mothers actually lay olive eggs as well.....I know that the marans rooster will often determine how dark the marans egg when the hen lays.

I wondered if the original eggs will also be an olive or if I need to wait for the daughters to lay the eggs and yes these are purebred ameracaunas..

Thanks Happy Mountain and onthespot

I'm about to put a batch of my dark olive eggs in the bator. I'll have chicks to sell and ship in three weeks.

Ruth, can you post pictures of the chicks> Or do you have some pictures of chicks from those eggs already? Thank you~

Yes! I wanna see too! Especially if you ship! It's going to be some time before I can make my own.

I have some chicks from olive eggs but Im debating whether or not to incorporate new blood for the chicks to mate with when they are old enough??

Isn't it best to cross back to an ameracauna or EE or marans once in a while to keep the eggs nice and dark? I thought I read that somewhere.

ETA: I'd probably cross back to ameracauna because I like the beards

Crossing back to EE's or Ameraucanas will give you a higher number of green/olive egg layers, but will probably lighten the color in the long run.

If darker eggs are the goal, I would cross back to Marans.

Oh I will totally cross back I have FBCM in bator now for dark eggs too. I just thought of adding a few girls that will already lay olive eggs instead waiting to find out if they will:)
