The Olive-Egger thread!

Wow alicefelldown! Those are beautiful eggs!!! And the girls are very pretty too! I don't have that particular pen set up any more. Still have the roo, but Mrs. Smith has the hens that laid the eggs yours hatched out of. I was just keeping them for her for awhile. Those eggs are spectacular! May I use your photos for my site? (whenever I get around to updating it, that is)

Patty- get those birds back, I want some of those blues!!!

I could go take some for you that don't have poo all over the place this weekend if that works. I've got a few more of them, these are just the first two that have been laying.
*ps - what was the mix of birds you had in that pen? I thought I had it saved on my computer but I couldn't find it yesterday.

Alicefelldown - NEAT way you did your pics - I love it! May have to borrow your idea. ALL of those eggies are just beautiful - your blue girls look JUST like mine - the blues are SO darn pretty! They are absolutley my favorite color birds. I adore the olive eggs - I picked a pretty one for my new avatar. Funny thing, I work so darn hard on my Marans, but the olive eggs are the eggs I personally think are the most beautiful!

Urban - yeppers, they are my favorite olive eggers! Mine don't all hatch blue, though - I get blacks, blues, and sometimes, browns. Kathyinmo has a lovely blue girl from me...as does Gumpsgirl & others:

I really need to get some new pics of my black olive eggers from my last hatch - they are only 13 weeks now, so I have ways to go before they lay. But the cockerels look EXACTLY like Black Ameraucanas - it's kind of eery!

I know what you mean Wynette - I thought the Marans would be enough for me, but I find myself lusting over the Olive eggs so much more!

I didn't have any Marans eggs in the fridge when we got the BCM/Olive cross yesterday, I need to get better pictures of that. The BCM/Olive(Pene/Amera) eggs are such a nice almost too green-khaki, where the Pene/Amera cross eggs (Heidi) are a light olive outside, pale blue inside. The Blue Olives from Onthespot are much more teal-olive, and such a bright blue on the inside.

I tried to capture it with the inside broken egg picture but the lighting was so poor. I need to try again!

I tried to approximate the natural light colors of these eggs below - my next goals are:
Cross half the blue olives to Ameras = should come out more teal
Cross half the blue olives to BCM = should come out darker and more khaki/army green
Cross the BCM/Olive to BCM (and then when she's done w/ the fertility de-tox) cross her to the Ameras. = hoping for some darker olives and then some more greenish

The Amera girls I have now came from some incredibly blue eggs (once removed from pips&peeps), so I'm very excited to work with them!

Yeah, the experimenting is SO much fun! I'm super anxious for my next experimental batch to lay. They are 2nd gen. olive egger that laid a VERY dark olive (with a goldish cast over them) bred to a Blue Ameraucana. My HOPE is that the BA will lighten the egg a bit, while still keeping in the family of "olive." I was REALLY hoping all the chicks would be blue, but all are black. Sigh. They're cute, though!

Where would wellies fit in there? I think I FINALLY got some OE girls. I recently noticed that the supposed EEs I hatched (from blue-green EE eggs) all have yellow legs. That rules out my ameraucanas as dads- so it must have been the welsummer!

I've been hatching them for months and kept getting boys- now I have 3 pullets growing out. I'm so happy- even if they aren't OEs-at least they're girls!
