The Olive-Egger thread!

The pen I sold the "blue olive egger" eggs from was with my splash ameracuana roo with silver leakage, and the hens were mostly rejects from my CBM breeding program, ones with mixed lines, to little or no copper, or solid black from my barred olive egger project too. In fact, any bird I didn't know what to do with went into that pen. My brown red turken, the splash ameraucanas, splash clean legged marans, blue clean legged marans too. For the people buying out of that pen though, I only sent the darkest marans eggs from the best girls. Sometimes someone would request the turken cross, or the ameraucana eggs, but mostly it was the nice dark chocolate marans eggs. I didn't hatch any for myself, just for record keeping sake. I didn't want any chicks to hatch that could possibly be of unknown breeding due to having similar traits to purebreds, so those eggs were all sold or eaten.

Looks like I need some of those Penedesenca (sp?) X Ameraucana OE eggs!

Anybody have those?

I'll have BW Ameraucana X Wheaten Penedesenca Olive Eggers next year, probably towards the end of summer, early fall. I'm waiting for my parent birds to grow up before I can breed the Olive Eggers. I wish I had a way to fast forward...

I'm hoping to create a sort of Blue Wheaten Olive Egger line. I might also be using Wheaten Marans.

Oooo.... I want some!

Hello everyone!

I'm new to having Olive Eggers! Although I have 3 months to go before I know how olive their eggs will be!

Out of the 5 Olive Egger hatches I have done, my EE's crossed with my BCM roo, I ended up with a bunch of blacks but I got lucky and have one blue pullet and one blue cockerel!!!! I am so excited.

So when they start laying I am going to hatch only the eggs from the blue girl. My goal is to have a 100% blue Olive Egger flock!

When I first got chickens I did not realize how much fun I was going to have with breeding!!!

HI Allyson,
Just wanted to let you know that the chicks I hatched from you the blue and copper is a roo (8 weeks), and my second hatch I have fingers crossed a blue pullet. I am hoping to breed them also, and the blue roo also to my EE's, wonder what color egg that would be?

I have my 3rd batch incubating due to lockdown tuesday, hoping for another 1-2 blues.

Hi Jenna,

Glad to hear you got another blue!

you get some more and they are pullets! So how is the blue and copper one feathering out? I'm sure he is real pretty. My blue guy looks like he might end up looking blue birchen!

He, Copper is 8 weeks and feathering out very cute, with the copper around his neck and chest, and I noticed some new feathers on his back copper, the rest is blue. He has quite the personality, loves to jump in my arms, and his chin scratched. Though when I tried taking these pictures, he ran from me, the little stinker.

Here is the picture of the hopefully blue pullet, and some of her hatch mates (3 weeks old), mostly black and some with brown leakage.

Just curious if you can pinpoint the mother of these chicks, then maybe you could keep her to produce more. Since I know your downsizing your EE's. Not sure there's anyway to or not or if you had any blue EE's.
