The Olive-Egger thread!

He's BCM and I think EE (or Ameraucana) from Ruth's stock. I'm thinking he carries more of the brown gene, so that's why I tried mating him to pure Ameraucana's. (and to get a normal pea comb back)

So we'll see what happens in 5-6 months. And yes, any you have with feathered shanks are from him. My welsummer and Ameraucana's are clean legged, as they should be.

He gets better looking every time I see him. He's such a beauty. He hatched from an olive egg and his mama hatched from an olive egg and possibly his grandmama hatched from an olive egg - and they all had pure BCM roos for daddys. I sure wish I could get a guy that looked like him. I started my olive egg flock with an EE hen that lived with the pure BCMs. She laid light blue/green eggs. I hatched several of her eggs and those birds all laid olive eggs. I've been hatching only olive eggers ever since and always breeding the female olive egg layers back to pure BCM roos.

Does BCM stand for Black Copper Maran?

second row from the top - all from the same pullet. the anomalies happened just prior to molt, she ran out of Marans stain.

lower right two, same pullet again , color size shape is much more stable now.

That is a GORGEOUS lineup!

I would especially love to have a bunch of Marans who lay like the top row!! aaaah dreams. . . . Mine give me what your fourth row show, sometimes darker.

You SO need to take the hen that lays those super dark ones and cross it to an Olive-egg layer. AAAHH the eggs would be AMAZING!!

Okay MM.... hand those olive eggers and some of the mossy bunch right here... What line did you start with???

lines - all the major names mixed-up for three years. this is my first gen with them so I can't take any credit except dietary. who wants to mane my line? write suggestions on back of $20 bill and mail.
