The Olive-Egger thread!

I love this thread! I have learned so much. I am new to chickens and was very quickly intrigued by the Oilve Eggers. I have eggs in my bator that are Welsummer x Lavendar Ameracuana crosses. They are due to hatch this Friday!

Will the dark colors of the Welsummer roo be more dominant or the white/lavendar of the ameracauna hens be dominant? I know they are gonna be gorgeous either way!

I have a couple that are I believe from Welsummer Roo over Wh Ameraucana. They look more like Welsummers but with a pea comb. No Muffs or Beards...

Lavender is recessive so my vote is for Welsummer looking. I have lots of EE with Lav Roo daddy and non are lav looking. Some have blue and purplish looking feathers but the mothers color was dominate over the Lav look. All very pretty!

I hatched 3 shipped OE eggs from Rockinpaint, she sent me 3 OE and 5 NHs and they all hatched. Yay! The OE chicks are black with some white, 1 has a single comb, while the other two have pea combs. 2 have beards. They were hatched from dark brown eggs, and 2 of the chicks have a white spot on their heads, so I am thinking that the mother is a cuckoo maran, or the father is a barred Ameraucana. Does that means that they are sex-linked?

Sounds like your Ameraucanas are gonna need a talk with you

Actually, I have to correct myself. Both of my OEs are f2 OEs. They are the product of OE hens and Welsummer Roo. I believe the original f1 OE hens were in fact from Welsummer Roos over Wh Ameraucanas.
Probably why they are tending back toward Wellies and have lost the Beards and Muffs. In fact, one of them even has reverted back to a single comb and gives me an interesting dark brown egg with almost a purple sheen - and not an Olive Egg at all.
The other gives me a beautiful Olive Egg that at times has almost a golden hue to it. Cool stuff.

If the pullet/hen is barred "YES" they are roos. If the roo was barred "NO" they would all be barred. UNLESS the Roo was a Sexlink too then some roos and some pullets would be barred... so really... you just need to ask what the birds are in those pens.

I will let you know what the parents are, and will post pictures of the chicks soon.
