Soooo cool!! I can't wait til mine finally start laying!!

I'm really excited! My EE checked out the nesting box today and after she's laying for a while I'm going to hatch some of her eggs. The dad is going to be my gold blue Marans. I think these two will make pretty olive egger babies!

Blu the roo with an Orpington

Esmeralda, my EE. (this is an older pic, she's got a lot more red on her feathers now)

I can't wait!

I think they would be perfect together! I don't think he is a Marans.... that is not a color Marans come in and his legs are the wrong color and no feathering. Did he come from a dark egg? If so he will be fine for Olive Eggers.

Could the roo not be from a gold cuckoo marans and a blue or blue copper marans?
Not all marans have feathered legs, my black copper doesn't except for a few feathers and same for my blue copper.

I know well all Marans don't have feathered legs

Still the legs are the wrong color and so are the feathers. No matter the mix does not meet even the least of the Marans Standards. But like I said he would be fine for Olive Eggers... just not for breeding as a Marans.

If he was from a Cuckoo he would be barred.... if the sire was cuckoo 100% of the chicks would be cuckoo and if the dam was cuckoo all the Roos would be cuckoo.

ok is the barring gene contributed by either the hen or the roo? My marans have slate colored legs.

Hens can only contribute barring to roos and roos can contribute barring to all chicks.

Look at the bottom of their feet..... should be WHITE, his legs are WAY too dark. His are really black.

LEGS AND TOES:
Lower Thighs -- Black.
Shanks and Toes -- Shanks and toes light to mid-slate, showing pink between the scales. Bottoms of feet pinkish white.
Shank and Toe Feathers -- Black.

I bought him as a straight run blue Marans chick along with one other from a women in Missouri, hoping for egg layers. Both turned out to be boys.

But that's ok, now I can try for my own OE's instead and I love his coloring even though it's not a recognized color for Marans. Didn't see the egg he came from, but she had some that were about a 5. After doing a lot of research, I don't think the parent stock she was working with was all that great, both of the roos I got from her are clean legged. I did end up getting 2 pullets from another breeder and one of them has such crazy feathering on her feet we named her Dusty 'cause she looks like a dust mop!

My Blue Marans hatched from a green egg. (He was a 3rd generation olive egger) Too bad he turned out to be a roo. I still wonder what color eggs I would get if I mix him with my EE's. He does have a straight comb so I guess he would have carried the brown egg gene instead of green??? Any quesses about him? Here he is at 15 weeks old. He just started crowing today!
