The Olive-Egger thread!

My Blue Marans hatched from a green egg. (He was a 3rd generation olive egger) Too bad he turned out to be a roo. I still wonder what color eggs I would get if I mix him with my EE's. He does have a straight comb so I guess he would have carried the brown egg gene instead of green??? Any quesses about him? Here he is at 15 weeks old. He just started crowing today!
He probably carries the brown egg genes. Crossed with EE would probably make Olive Eggers.

Pretty rooster--love the dark blue lacing!!

Question for you all white Easter Egger experience.

I have 2 white hens that are mostly white with enough red leakage to just add a slight coloring making them look pale buff or cream.

I would like to know if these girls ( from Meyers) carry the dominant white genes. I recently hatched a few that have white chick down with splashes of black on their back. I thought one of the hens had been jumping the fence to have an affaire, but now I'm wondering if I have accused her unjustly.

She belongs in a flock with a big blue Americana. Is he, could he be the daddy after all??

Looks like your describing the blue/red splash coloring for EE hens. You can't really see the blue in them like you can a rooster. I wouldn't know if it were dominant white or not because I have had mine with blue/red and blue red splash EE roosters. My babies have turned out like mom or dad blue/red and blue/red splash.

I believe that you rooster could be the daddy, after blue can produce black, and those black spots could be a very dark blue or change to a blue later as the baby matures. It is probably a splash chick.

For the above post.

One of my homebred OEs just started laying yesterday, and the egg color is great! I'm not sure if this was an Am x Cuckoo Marans cross, or the Am x FBCM cross, but I'm really happy with it. It is a tiny little pullet egg, and as cute as can be. Here's a pic:

The EE egg looks pretty washed out here, but is the normal light green you get from a hatchery bird.

Dana, my vote is that the BC is the parent and not the cuckoo. My cuckoo are from a very pale egg, pale on the brown scale that is; perhaps yours are too. All my EE's crossed with a normal brown egger , make a pale olive and those with a BC dad make a dark rich olive.

Of course, if your cuckoos lay a dark brown, this whole thought process should be tossed out the window.

Draye-- thanks for the input; I'm pretty sure splash requires two blue genes to get the splash dilution. THese chicks look like the coloring on the california white leghorns. White with flecks. Just keeps me guessing!

My lone Cuckoo lays a "medium dark" brown...

It's much darker than say a Barred Rock, but definitely lighter than any of my Copper girls. I can pick the Cuckoo's eggs out at a distance.

I guess we'll see what else gets laid in the very near future - I have two Am x Cuckoo pullets, and one Am x FBCM. At some point, they'll all lay on the same day, right?

DMrippy, Have you crossed BCM with Lavender Ameraucana, I have both and was wanting to see what the chicks will possibly look like.
Thanks Michele
