The Olive-Egger thread!

I've been reading this thread for a little while. May I join in? My first olive egger has hatched. I hope it's an olive egger, anyway!
We don't bite! come on in!

My chick's paternal grandfather comes from a light-coloured egg line, his grandmother a dark brown line, so his father hatched from a nice dark brown egg. He is a barnevelder, so nowhere near as dark as a marans, but it was a lovely coffee colour. This is why I'm not sure the chick will produce nice eggs or not, as that light-colour line might have an impact.
His mother is an araucana, but she doesn't lay perfect sky-blue eggs, so I'm hoping that will help towards the green.

After all this, it'll be a cockerel! I only really popped the egg in the incubator as a test to see if my white hen is dominant white, but it looks like I picked the wrong egg as it's from my black-red. Doh!

Ok, I have my 'bator set up for a test run.

Been saving a few of my prettiest BCM/EE eggs, plus a few BCM/barred rocks for variety. We'll see how many I have when the dozen OE eggs arrive from DMRippy

The rocks and Marans make GREAT meat birds. I saw one and that roos breasts were HUGE..... she had never seen a meat bird any better. She said he was all meat too. I hope they pick up the laying. That Tropical storm has everyone slacking off.
