hi , FELLO CHICKENEERS,
enclosed are a few images of my ongoing attempt to build a coop .
The coop is being designed and built on a frugal budget of zero
To my surprise I’m somehow keeping within budget.
Firstly I need to point out that I’m defo no builder or joiner,
Thankfully tho. I do own a few basic tools, which have been gathering dust & rust the past 10 -20 years
namely a hand Saw, a hammer, an ancient 12volt drill that I’ve discovered needs charged after 12 3” screws where used ..
A box of ramdom screws
The timber used was again collected gathered over many years with the thought that maybe one day I might find a use .. and now I have a reason for all the HOARDING of planks and such,
What got me started was a friend who offered me his daughters unused two story rabbit hutch
And my idea was to extend and double the depth of the hutch From 45cm to 90cm and install a roost in the extension
Soo my question is .. how much of a diameter should the roosting branch be. ?
Soo The coop i’m attempting to build soo far has cost me zero
The plan is To remove rear of the hutch and connect then attach the tension to it and then the two smaller boxes in Picts ( hutch/ unus3d dog box ) to either side as nesting boxes and put a new roof with felt over the coop. And put chicken wire around the base and at front bottom section I’ll build two doors that open outwards for cleaning ,. And when I can fence of a run , as at present the chicken poop at my back door is a hassle …
As a base/bottom for the coop I was thinking a frame with plywood and Lino that I will attach with hinges underneath which I can raise and lower and secure with a bolt , when lowered it should make it easy to sweep out the poop and bedding. .
Does that sound Ok ?
Any suggestions welcome. .. thank you
