My In-Laws ( I call in-laws, out-Laws for fun ) were complaining about carrying water out to their chickens everyday because they cant figure out how to make a self sufficentnwatering system ( like mine ) even after looking at it ..... SO, I decided since I have all the supplies and we are supposed to go for Christmas ( 2 hour drive there ) I decided to build them one a little more simplified than mine, if they want to expand it, they can do that themselves later. I froze my buttocks off out in the garage as we got hit with snow, 5 degree temps with -30 windchill...whew !!!
My girls are doing good in the coop, no heat source but it is fairly warm inside the coop which surprised me tonight.

Anyways, here are a few teaser pics as it sits tonight, will load and have ready to go tomorrow.

I love this! Will it be able to be heated? Will the tubing and cups be able to be heated? Definitely following !

If inside the coop it shouldnt freeze, mine hasnt and it is 5 degree outside with -30 windchill 50mph wind gusts, no heat in the coop and its actually fairly warm inside, surprised me. But if they want to heat it they can buy a submersable aquarium heater or simular that will fit through the bung port or a wrap if they want.... as far as the cups/pipes they can use heat tape if needed. In my old coop I used a heat lamp to keep the water from freezing, it really didnt heat the coop, just kept temps above freezing... if needed a heat lamp could also be incorporated into the coop ( not sure of the outlaws setup yet but not needed for mine so far ) My coop is double walled with this build so I assume thats why it is warmer inside.

This is my set up with the outside turned off and drained for the winter using valves that are inside the coop. Works great, half barrel (25 gallons) last 3 months in the summer, I just filled it last week for the winter as I know the hoses will freeze so they should be good for the winter with water. Next spring I will be connecting it to the gutter system so it will fill itself with rain or snow in the future, just didnt get to it this year with my wrist surgery.
