Maybe," Jinx said. "But I like it here. I have everything I want, and I am close enough to see my family.

"I understand," Seth said again as they walked inside. Just then, there was a loud noise coming from outside; a noise easily recognizable as a rooster crowing. Seth looked around and, as he looked through a window, he noticed that there was a beautiful Black Copper Maran rooster standing on the pinacle of the roof of Jinx's wood shed. The chicken crowed again and jumped down from the roof. He was suddenly joined by a number of other chickens. Seth could tell from the shapes of their bodies that the new ones were all hens. There was a RIR, a Barred Rock, a Buff Orpington, another BCM, and at least three EE's. Seth looked back at Jinx and asked "are those birds out there yours?"

"Yes, they are. The Captain was supposed to be a hen, though. Luckily I'm too far away from the town for anyone to hear him crowing." She smiled at the hens. "That's not all of them. Some of them must be in the coop. And I have a cow, and a few sheep. Oh, and when you go outside, watch out for Lacey. She's my guard goose. If she tries to bite you, just grab her and toss her away. She'll leave you alone after a few throws."
