The Peeps are here...some bad news. -UPDATE-I am at a loss...HELP! :o(

AWww, man, that's too bad. What a nasty surprise after your hope-filled long wait. But you seem to be able to roll with life's surprises better than most of us, so if anybody can make lemonade with all Barred Rocks, you can. (Pardon my misapplied analogy)

Right. I just e-mailed a friend and said "I just keep telling myself...my cup is half full! IT IS HALF FULL! and I'll be OK".

She said, "better yet...your brooder is half full!" :|

OK! That works! LOL!

Sorta...

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I am fine...I will go take a nap in a bit. Too wired...right now.

Peace-

Pedro

PS The little guy (Orpy) is doing OK! It was getting pecked at by a couple of the BRs so I put it in a cat crate INSIDE the brooder area and it seems a bit better. It is raising it's little head up and peeps like the rest of them...a little wobbly on the legs but, it's trying. I am focusing a lot of energy on it. I don't know why it's suddenly important for it to live?

I'm so sorry you lost so many little ones, how sad

I have only ordered from Welp's so far, and haven't had any bad issues (as a matter of fact, just replied to a thread in the hatchery section about them before reading this) I don't want to put all blame on Welps, as it could be the PO at fault also (did they sit on a loading dock somewhere, etc) but yeah, I don't want to defend them either, if they are at fault. Unfortunately, Welps doesn't have the free rare chick-it is just Murray McMurray...I spent *alot* of time going back and forth between the two, deciding on my spring order...the rare chick was actually one of the reasons I had thought about MM, lol!

Again, I'm sorry for your loss,

for the little BO left, and that your replacement chicks arrive happy and healthy.

Oh I know...I don't want to slander anyone either. I did write a subsequent e-mail where I retracted what I said (sorta) about the "free rare & unusual" and that it might have been a PO issue...or some other factor played into the whole thing. I guess it was the heat of the moment...

I was still a bit mopey about the fact that I couldn't get the chicks I originally wanted but...that IS out of their control.

When it comes to chicks...I am just a BIG baby!

Well, I had gotten them so that I could process the roos and let the girls lay until they slow down, then process them!

Now that only one of the Orps made it it's like just not right to process it. The little guy will have a name and will live a long life, if I have anything to say about it. Haven't thought of a name for it...any ideas? I call it "Orpy" but it's SO not original!

The bad thing is if it's a roo, I am screwed! I already have 4 roos!

!

Oh well...it's only right.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

If it had happened to me, I'd never order them from a hatchery again. That would just be too traumatic for me. In fact, I have never had the nerve to try to order from a hatchery . . . I would just worry myself silly until I had them safe and sound at home.

Good luck with your new bundles of fluff! I bet it feels a little like spring at your place right now. How awesome is that? Winter is just driving me nuts this year.

Oh, I know, you have every right to be upset! I hope I didn't come off as defending; just wanted to post my experience (especially with the rare chick part...darn it, that just seems like the icing on an order cake huh!) I actually went so far as to pick a totally off the wall breed I probably "normally" wouldn't order, and ordered just one...for this spring-a Sumatra, lol!

I don't blame you one bit, though, for being upset. That would be a sad dissappointment to open up, but at least you have the ones that did survive, to keep you busy for now. Take care,
