Hi! I'm new to this site, and although I already own quail, I am getting ready to start a chicken flock as well. What kind would you lovely people recommend? I'm hoping for a very friendly breed that is relatively low maintenance. I've only had once experience with chickens- once had a Rhode Island Red who I raised from an egg. She would jump on my lap if I was outside, and was the sweetest thing ever! She died from unknown causes during her first chicken show, sadly.

The choice will depend upon your goals. Do you want eggs, meat, dual purpose, 'yard ornaments', broody/non broody, etc. ?

Well my friendliest chicken out of my 10 different chickens is an Easter Egger! Hops on my lap and let's me pet her like a puppy. She even let's me pet her fluffy cheeks and beard.

Sour, I mainly want them as pets and to show them. The eggs are nice too, though I don't frequently eat them.

Honey, what are Easter Eggers like? They sound like they lay pretty eggs <3

Sorry. I was about to respond and my internet went down.

This is my EE Skittles. They can lay light blue, pink, or green eggs.... Or so I've heard (She's not laying yet).
She's a blast! She's also a little piggy. If she's on my shoulder and i dare to smile she'll peck at my teeth. She'll also zoom through all the bigger chickens and pick up all the treats that I throw down. Lot's of fun to watch, but the big girls don't appreciate it like I do. They'll peck some cheek fluff from her if they actually manage to catch her. so I just hold her and feed her treats separately. She is quite a character.

I also have a buff orpington pullet who is pretty sweet too. She's a snuggler.

Btw, if you're hoping to show your chickens, the Easter Egger won't be a good choice since they're not really a breed. As I understand it, they're more or less a (cover Skittles' ears)... a mutt.
