The PERFECT FEEDER

How about a grid of wire rods, 2 or 3 of them, across the feed access. This should let chickens get their head in, but not the goats?

What do you think about a sheet of hardware cloth that snaps in over the feed? It could go in and out with some kind of snaps or hooks that the goats and chickens couldn't undo?

Thanks for posting these pictures! I think they are something to consider!

There are two small holes at the side. To train your birds, you open it fully and put a long nail into the first hole. This keeps the feeder open. When the chooks get used to feeding out of it, the nail gets moved to the second hole so that the feeder is now partly open and there is a small amount of movement when they step on the step. When the girls get used to the movement of the step and the lid, then they are ready to open it by themselves. One of my bantams only weighs 650 grams, but she can use this. No one gets hurt or trapped.
