I'm looking for one that doesn't poop good to eat and lays lot's of eggs :)

JK ... I have 9 chickens in a backyard coop / run plus free range and was going to add a small quail pen as an addition onto the chicken run. It will be secure and about 2' x 5' in size. I want to add 6 to 10 quail for a few eggs and maybe harvest them in the fall for meat. I have a small incubator coming from Amazon (Brinsea Mini Advance). Now I want to pull the trigger and order a dozen eggs but keep going back and forth on the breed.

So what is a calm, less aggressive, not too heat sensitive (South Texas) all around choice. I know there is no correct answer but if I can eliminate a breed or two it would help.

Hope you enjoy your quail, could I ask where you bought them from? Thinking about adding in a different family into the mix.

NPIP stands for National Poultry Improvement Society. Some states like texas require any shipped eggs/birds to be NPIP certified. Every year an NPIP rep comes out and test your birds blood for a couple of diseases. The problem is that the diseases they test for have been well under control for about 20 years. It really doesn't mean a whole lot at this point. However it is a positive organization to poultry world and hopefully they will advance as time goes on.

Cool, thanks for the info.
