We got the playhouse for free from some friends. The wood base was built out of scrap from another friend's lumber pile. The hardware cloth was left over from the big coop. I only paid for screws and washers to attach the hardware cloth. I still need to put a lock on the door, though.

Currently living in the playhouse are 8 chicks between 6 and 10 weeks old. Eventually they'll be moved into the big coop and I'm hoping to use the playhouse as a brooding coop, especially if we decide to keep our 3 Silkies, who do nothing but sit on eggs and drive me crazy.

I saw one of those @ Cosco and thought the exact same thing! It was $700 bucks though and I have more time and lumber than that. Good score;)

Looking at the clock it's 5:00 somewhere...............I see they nest in the fireplace..hmmmm are you trying to get them used to something? Baked chicken?

There's a little door that swings open behind the fireplace, so it's a good place for a nesting box. Also a fantastic reminder to keep them on their best behavior!
