I have angora rabbits and I give them a trim down there when I want my girl to be matted with a buck from another clan. I want to make sure I get what I paid for lol!
Change of subject
I'm from Gorham, NH and I am looking for someone close by who would be willing to sell me some Plymouth rock ld like them to be very young hens, pullets or chicks. I'd prefer not having to travel to Manchester but give me their names and I'll try to about 15 +/- have them email me! That would be great and Thank you for your help! I'd also like some Americaunas. I think I spelled it wrong. I'm down to my last one and she's 9 yrs old. I'd love to get some colored eggs, it's been awhile!
Again, thank you:)

Chickery-do. This thread is for breeding birds to the Standard of Perfection of the American Poultry Association. If you check the heading for this section, Exhibition, Genetics & Breeding the the Standard of Perfection, this section is not for the discussion of pet birds.

Chickens Wanted to Buy or Sell is found in this section. Buy Sell Trade Rules - MUST READ & AGREE TO PARTICIPATE

Feel free to private message any of the breeders who are regular here and ask them about available stock. Questions such as your search for birds should really be done privately, according to the rules of BYC. Thanks.

And, know you're welcome here to learn anytime. Glad to have you.

Fred, could you post the pic for the SOP on PWRs again? I thought I had it saved but I don't, nor have I bought the book just yet but really need to see that pic as I put an eye on these growing birds of mine. I need to see the correct tail on the male and female again, just to get that burned into my brain. I've got a particular male in my head but I'm afraid his tail doesn't have a good angle on it, but my second pick seems to have a good lift on his. It's getting down to the time where I will pen all these males together and fill them out, look them over better and mark those I have my eye on so I can follow how they fill out as they come into sexual maturity.

Now I have that pic in my head again and can really do some detailed inspection on both sexes and compare them with what I see in the book. Thank you so much! Saved it for future reference.

Your Welcome!

I was thinking my female breeders had too much angle on their tails but, looking at the pics in the SOP, they are doing fine. I'll have to readjust what I'm looking for in the females I pick now...I have my eye on a couple but I'm afraid they are too level on their backs now, though that may change as they get their full figure.

How old is the group your evaluating?

Here's a quarterly newsletter from the Rock club. On page 13, you'll find a print done by who else? A.O. Schilling of the classic White Rock pair. Whose birds are they? Harry Halbach, of course.

If you want a visual of the quintessential White Rock, you can do no better than Schilling drawing Harry Halbach birds. Harry defined the White Rock. We've got descendents of those birds today. Those are what I raised in the late 1950's. Halbach Whites were White Rocks in my mind.

(note: Bear in mind the Standard has tweaked the specifics just a wee, wee bit since 1900, but nothing much to worry about. The modern tail angle is 30 degrees on the males, 20 degrees on the females. Follow the modern Standard on tail angles. Nobody but hatcheries want Rocks with anything approaching upright tails anymore and nobody want dump tails either. Follow the Standard, breed to the Standard, forget fads. Fads come and go. The current fad is to make males that have far too much tail furnishment, too high and begin swooping up right at the base of the neck. This is WRONG. Popular doesn't make it right. The Rock should show some back.)

Got it! Thank you for the pic, Fred! It would be really neat if you could post pics of examples of those males without enough back before the tail ascends and also, I've noticed that most folks are showing hens with very straight tails but the SOP shows the hen to have a slight angle/lift to the tail. Are the judges wanting that flat tail or are they still expecting the pullets/hens to have a little lift there?
