I stopped by the post office yesterday morning to let them know I was expecting a shipment of live chicks around 7/1. I left them my name and phone number and told them to call me as soon as they arrived (they offered to send them out with my carrier! but I said no thanks, I'd prefer to pick them up).
So this morning I get a phone call at 8 AM saying, "Your package is here!"
My husband took the call and hung up the phone before I had a chance to get any information. I'm in an utter panic because they're a week and a half early, I have no brooder set up or anything!
How could the hatchery have messed this up and shipped so early? I was completely freaked.
Hubby calmly reminded me that I was expecting a shipment of EGGS any day -- maybe that's what they had at the post office? I calmed down a little then. Sure enough, I got to the PO and there's a box with a LIVE ANIMALS sticker on it but written in big letters it says, FRAGILE: HATCHING EGGS. Phew! I told them to hang onto my name and number as I'm still expecting a shipment of live birds.
I swear my heart stopped for a minute, though.
