the price of hay

There is NOTHING AWFUL about Hording hay!!! Good job, saving up in case next year is a bad year for hay. I am getting a little tired of universities "updating" facts about hay.

I believe that I got into my horses at the very tail end of wise, older horseman(women) who REALLY knew their horses and their horse feed. (Some of the people who gave me good, tried-and-true advice are now dead. Shame--miss 'em.)
YES, etruded pellets have improved on bagged grain. Hay is hay is hay. It doesn't go bad after it sits in you dry loft for one year, or two years, or three years. It loses nutrition up to ONE YEAR after harvest, and then, no more. I have a handful of bales from 2007, AND I intend to feed them.

Horses need to put their heads down and chew (grass)hay, even if the universities and the feed companies come up with a "Better Alternative to Hay." , Or they tell you to start feeding in a feed bag, or something else that is the "latest thing." ALSO, people used to gauge their horses and often fed OAT STRAW to their horses over the winter---YES, I said OAT STRAW.

Sorry for the rant, but I think people oughta know these things. I'm rooting for you and me, too.

..I'm done, now...

that is true....hay is hay!! and I HORD it!!......i've been ridding sinc i was 3, that was 30 ++++ years ago and have always had a horse in my life, i untill i bout my farm i had only boarded at 4 barns, and managed a barn for a family friend in the summer when there horses would come home in the summer, there horses would come home always ribby......i don't belive on fattening up a horse just on grain....a lot of pasture time and hay at night did the trick with in a few weeks...by the end of the summer all the horses looked like they where due to foal including the geldings, that's all my driving pony abby get is just hay...and a hand ful of range pellets....and she looks like she's due any day..
