the price of hay

Small square bales in small quantities are $4-$5 a bale delivered here, $3-$3.50 picked up, depending on quantity. Large quantities are about $3 a bale loaded.

Round are about $35-$40 a bale loaded, somewhat less for large quantity orders.

Many state agriculture outreach programs maintain lists of suppliers and prices. That's where I find mine if our usual source is out.

I was gonna tell you that I paid $4/small square, 45 to 65 lbs, delivered and stacked---I only needed 200 MORE for this winter...

Where are you getting it for this Price? Dxxx good price!

I bought squares of coastal from the field beautiful horse hay for $5.25 a bale. The same bales are upward of $7.50 at the feed store. Round bales of horse quality hay are going for $85 around here from a grower.

Need more hay to get through the winter...

2,200 pounds of hay showed up today with another another 6,000 pounds due next week all for $200 bucks! he knocked the loading charge of $50 off my bill because i paid for all the hay at once and in cash. it's really good hay....right now my horses are our on pasture so i hope that i wont have to start using it till oct....although i'm a awlful hay horder....

I think two year old round bales are a waste of good money. The nutrition has to be close to zero and if they have been outside at all, 1/4 or more of the outer edges will be rotten. I'd get this years hay if at all possible. Here in Lexington, good alfalfa goes for about $5.00 a 60lb square bale in a good year, up to $7.50 in draught years. Round bales of grass go for $25.00 to $35.00 in good years and up to $75 in draught years. We pay $3.50 per sq. bale most years right out of the field, some years we get it for $2.50 if there is plenty to go around. Of course, delivery costs more.

I just bought this WEEK's fresh orchard grass square bales for 4$. She offered last falls for 2$. But I wanted this years crop so I paid the extra. If I could have gotten there in time before they barned it up, I'd have paid 2.50.

Fortunately the farm is about 15 minutes from here so I just pick up as needed, and don't store on my own. A couple or few bales at a time. I am so glad I found her.

I pay $35 to $45 for good upland grass hay for the 72 inch bales. Not sure of the weight. But we got lucky this year and contracted for a hay field at $10 a bale. We just had to cut and bale it.
