The price of TOTW

Grain free is the way to go for our GSD. He is severly allergic to wheat and had an am,azing transformation when we switched his food. We were doing Annova/Evo to start, but that was uber-pricey. We now use the PetSmart Authority brand Chicken & Rice, b/c that has no wheat. Only one that doesn't in that price range. (About $30 for 33 lb bag)

Grain sensitivity can lead to hair loss, diarreah and poor growth.

Not all Taste of the Wild varieties are grain free. That said, we've been using the fish and potatoes formula for our dog; it does have oatmeal and I think rice (I'd have to check the bag to be sure). She is allergic to beef and corn and goodness knows what else. This is one of the foods she will eat (she is NOT dog food motivated). Doesn't like most dog treats, either.

I find the price quite reasonable compared with some of the other premium brands.

I've been using Blue Buffalo for our chocolate Lab with allergies. Turns out it was not grain or beef or any of the usual suspects. As long as I stay away from foods with artificial or chemical crap in them- colorings, preservatives, etc- he's good. Used to have him in to the vet every 6 weeks or so with allergy triggered ear infections. Since I switched to more natural based foods, he's not had the issues.

Northern CA I pay $42 for 30 pound bag. But our feed store offers discounts for Farm Bureau Members. I get a 10 percent discount on EVERYTHING there.. Yahoo.. so that makes it 38 bucks. I have a sheltie who is very grain intolerant, and I have three other very small dogs. The combined total weight of the other three is less than the Sheltie. So... even with 4 dogs, I don't go through that much, and there is no way I am feeding him one thing and everyone else something else. He had done very well on Royal Canide (sp?) venison and potato.. his coat was beautiful, but then that price went even higher than this I had to go to vet to get it which was pain. So that is when we switched over to totw. My rescue pom had very little hair when we got her 3 years ago. Her fur is rich and beautiful and the deepest black with such a sheen and I know it is from totw.. so for now, we are sticking with it.

I have been paying between 46.99 to 49.99 per 30lbs bag, depending on the variety. So now I am a bit jealous. I feel like a very bad mother, because I am waiting for my 12 year old Komondor to pass away. He is in disgustingly good shape for his age. He though is the reason that I am feeding the TOTW though. He gets hot spots really badly. He is always itchy. For the past 4 years he has been getting a steroid shot nearly monthly for the itching. It didn't seem to work this month.

I swear I have a PHD in dog behind scratching. When he goes finally I am going to see if I can afford to put the pack of nasty little dogs on raw food. That seem to be the best for all of them, but just to pricey with the pack.

I have no idea what prices we are paying. If you have to downgrade diamond naturals is made by the same company and what we fed off and on since one of our dogs would get fat on TOTW. More feed stores carry the other diamond brand foods than they do totw. We've since switched to kent's new dog food.
