My sweet baby has jumped on my leg when I squat down in the coop. Yesterday she jumped on my shoulder, then proceeded to my head.

I have one or two who go into the coop when I'm trying to clean it and complain. I have learned that spreading it nicely around is counterproductive. They will scratch it into a pile. But, if I scatter clumps and leave it alone with them for 20 minutes, they will have it spread everywhere.Mine are just bossy critics of my work.![]()

I do still plan on rehoming my flock, I just haven't found the right person yet. My step-dad doesn't really hate them I guess, he said he doesn't...but the little remarks he's made makes me feel like he's not exactly fond of them. For example- I texted him at work to tell him his yummy supper was ready and waiting for him. His reply was... 'fried chicken?'.Another time, I texted him to tell him it was raining so hard that I should build a boat and just float away. His response was.. 'don't forget to take your chickens with you'.
But he knows my mom and I love them, he'll see us hug on them.

I think some men just like to make you think it's all a big deal. Perhaps he is having fun complaining about them?Oh yes, he does help with them, I think that's why he's sick of them. He's a little tired of picking up supplies for them(I cannot lift those bags of shavings too well) and fixing up stuff for them. He wired up my old greenhouse frame as a daytime stay-in for my girls. He's also had to fix it up where I can easily pull up and down the tarps on it to keep it dry when it rains. He also added wheels to the frame so I can semi-easily push/pull it to fresher grass. My mother and I aren't handymen, so who else can we ask to build things?
No, my step-dad isn't so much an animal person, unless it's dogs. He is a cityish guy- no gardening experience, no experience with animal pests coming in his yard... Gardening is MY thing.
So hopefully your husbands animal compassion is no longer negative five, I hope? Surely he likes your chickens?
