the PVC thing does NOT work!

I took the PVC pipe feeder in a different direction, using ABS pipe because I couldn't find the fittings of the right size to complete the project. (Shoulda seen me sitting in the aisle fitting pieces of PVC then ABS pipe together....)

How this works is there is only a straight fall for the feed. I have bantams in with the LF chickens and I wanted them to be able to reach the feed, too. The bottom of the Y is filled with gravel and lots of DE. The feed falls to that layer of gravel (for weight and filler) and DE, then fills partway up the Y. The chickens reach INTO the open leg of the Y to get the feed.

I don't have to permanently attach it to the wall, either; I've moved it already from the spot where it is in the picture. I just lean it against the wall, the gravel at the bottom makes it heavy and easy to "plant" in the layers of pine shavings, and a bungee cord clipped to nails on either side of the feeder keeps it upright and against the wall.

gryeyes - that is exactly what we use out in the woods to feed the deer and smaller, lower ones to feed the wild turkeys. I probably have 20 of them out and about. I have 6 of them that have 10" diameter vertical pieces 8 ft. tall and I reduce the size to 4" near the bottom at the wye fitting. They all work very well.
