The Quack Shack. Duck house pics!

Thank You for the picture. Just acquired two Pekins from a flea mkt. Go figure. We have small pond on our property, do you think this type of house would be ok by the water?

chickengarden, I have 2 Rouens, 2 Indian Runners, and 1 Pekin. (WH is on my wish list. Lol).

Sadie57, the wood I used is pressure treated. I know there are people who say not to use it with pets because they could ingest the chemicals but I don't see a duck nawing on it like a dog might. Lol. So my duck house shouldn't rot. I do plan to paint it and add tin to the roof and that should make it a little more weather resistant. I would put it near a pond if I had one. There are people with ducks that live kind of close to me and they have a pond. They use kid play houses for the ducks (those little tikes or preschool plastic houses). The houses are right on the bank of the pond. But I'd say as long as your duck house won't rot because of the water it should be fine.

Timbertoes, I have no idea why we have such green grass. Lol. It's been freezing here until recently. The grass didn't really "die" over the winter. Weird stuff.

Ok, I put up a chicken wire fence. Not my original plan BUT I'm usually outside with them when it's nice weather, a lot of duck free range during the day with no pen, and the only daytime predators here are the neighbors dogs (who btw, came over to the ducks the other day and didn't even care they were there but the ducks got scared and ran inside the house). So. This is what I'm going with. (The get locked up in the house at sundown until about 9am). Anyway, here's a pic of everything so far. Oh, and now I have to climb over the house to get inside the fence. Gotta do something about that.

Oh, I meant to mention that we have hawks here too. But I'm hoping with the ducks being so close to the house that won't be a problem.
