With his eyes glowing he escorted her through the back alleys so they wouldn't be seen . *I wish I was escorting her to the ball instead of prison* he thought wistfully . She ignored the stares of passers by. Whatever she thought I can take a bunch of petty guards anyway

They soon reached the Duke's palace and Charley was emitted into the evil bird's courtroom . The black Australorp before him sat on his throne like a king . "What is it this time?" he snapped . "You interrupted my game of chess" . Charley bowed quickly . "I have captured Killer Oak your greatness" he said with forced respect . The Duke menacingly trod over to where Oak stood . He looked her up and down with contemplation . "It is her" he confirmed . Then the Duke whirled and stalked back to his throne . "Tommorw she shall be publicly burned at the stake" he snarled . Charley turned pale but nodded . "Don't worry, I'll get you out far before that happens" he whispered out of the side of his beak . "Make sure the lad gets his reward" the Duke said as final parting . The two guards who had escorted Charley and Oak nodded .

Oak glared at her cell wall. She was officially dead. No way was she ever getting out of this one. Completely and utterly ruined, her reputation was ruined too. Ideas whirled through her brain but none where rational. For the first time since the green grazing empire had been destroyed she felt fear, the stab of fear that went through her was like a knife being stabbed through her chest.
She thought about Charly Hoping he could get himself that house he wanted so much with her reward money. She remembered suddenly that she still had the daggers. She kicked around. No sharp cold steel bumping against her foot. She felt as though half her hope had been lost. Then she ruffled her feathers trying to spot the familiar glint letting her know that she hadn’t lost all hope for breaking free of this jail. But no. They must have taken her weapons when she was knocked out after coming in. She glared back at the wall.
