Well, where you live it doesn't get that cold. And winter doesn't last too long. Here it drops below 0 most nights, and the winter lasts from around late November to late April. Sometimes, depending on the year, it can even start in late October and end in early May.

I use to live in a place where winters were like that and I miss it.
