As an adult, I'd still like to own one.

I love them! And it gets way too hot in Texas for them to not be indoors. And he helped. If I remember correctly, he stuffed a shoe in the hole once I'd lured them all out with treats.

Chinchillas aren't lagomorphs but are a rodent more closely related to guinea pigs and capybara. Scientists have wanted to reclassify that part of the family into their own group called caviomorphs. They don't have numerous large litters like the smaller rodents. Chinchillas' gestation is 111 days.

I guess I meant more are they blind and helpless like rabbit babies are, or are they born ready to run around like guinea pig babies? Could have explained that better though, my bad

That might be a good way to kill a chinchilla. Their digestion is very delicate.

I knew what you meant. This is why I explained it in depth. Baby chins are bouncing around and climbing out of their cages within hours. lol Maribelle used to fetch them for me like little rogue dust bunnies and bring them to me when they escaped. lol
