The raccoons have picked a battle with the wrong person...

Each province and municipality will differ

within the town limits no you cant shoot the dog. Because the county I live in is rural and there is no real animal control. If you can PROVE by pics and bills lost livestock I cant see there being a problem with it... but to be honest we dont have a dog issue here the coyotes take care of that

so you can shoot a dog but have to have a vet come and put a coon down that makes no sense. guess it depends on the city or county or township not sure what you guys call them up there. I live in town so no shooting predators here I tried and built fort knok the best I could good luck and hopefully you won't lose anymore chickens.

The longer a wild coons in a trap and having to hear or smell humans is more and more and more stress and fear..
I would think it would be more human to dispatch it immediately then let it tear itself apart in a cage till a vet could get there. Just keep it covered might help it be quiet some .
It is illegal almost everywhere to transport wild animals over county lines for a very good reason, rabies.
We have had 2 coyotes in my county so far test positive this year.

I cant find the web site that said it had to be done by a vet but I read it on a ministry of natural resources link this morning

CORRECTION.....

Dogs...

No we cant SSS with dogs... we need to call animal control and have the claim filed... if the offender has a history the officer may issue the destruction of the dog

and in addition I have to be really careful and go by the book cause I am ILLEGAL... I have 4 dogs and am only allowed 3...but my dogs are only 9lbs.. gee cut me some slack..lol

Do you need a potty pass too??!! And Canada used to be...........free.

Raccoons.------------Hava-Heart live traps work well. Bait can be dry catfood or sardines work well. Afterwards: 1. Dispatch and bury 2. Sell the live coon to the Coon hunters, they pay $20/coon here (don't ask what?) 3. Skin, clean, cook---good eating 4. Look up coonskin cap, making your own.

I agree, i don't want to lose any of my chickens either, but the coon is just doing what nature tells it to do-eat. They may have babies that will die without mom. I know I'm a sap, but I love all animals. Can you relocate the coon, let your dog out to protect your flock, ect..like the last person said, another coon will take it's place. Sorry for the lost of your girls. I may change my mine if somethings tries to kill all of my girls!
