The RE-Build of Les Farms

Probably would have been less if we had of went with one without a master craftsman degree. :) He's honest and hardworking and gets the job done on time. Plus most of it comes out of insurance, so we had a lot to work with.
I see. Your barn is awesome, you could play hide and seek in it! haha! ;)

Yes there is a roof peak vent, but if the OSB is covering everything in the room, how does it pass through the OSB to the vents? So confusing to me :p
.....
When a builder talks about ventilation they are probably just thinking venting the 'attic' above a heated area...maybe he's not aware of ventilation for livestock??

How are the heated areas heated?

If there's a forced air system for heating, ventilation of humid air in the winter might not be a concern...and if it is a forced air system you might be able to just run the fan in the summer to circulate air?

Only heating the brooding room, and heating it with a forced air wall unit. :)

I do have all those windows that I can open for ventilation in the summer. Doors will be dutch as well. I was in there today and with all windows closed I felt a nice breeze (doors not on yet).

I explained about the livestock concern, and he's built barns before for livestock, so I just can't see how he wouldn't know how important it is (I stressed it many times). I will ask him again on Monday.

I kind of figured that, will be interested to see what he says.

Now that the structure is up, the operation details will emerge....it'll be fun - with probably a few concerns to solve, like this one - getting the gear all set up.

Good Luck!

I will make sure to let you all know :)

Looking at my FIL's garage it looks the same. Insulated with no obvious ventilation, but garages MUST have ventilation. It is very dangerous not to right?

Just spoke with his wife. Couldn't wait until Monday lol. He's going to cut vents most likely she said, but I will have a meeting with them about breeding pens shortly and get the details for sure. He also didn't finish cutting the pop doors - so it's probably just on his list of finishings. I always jump to ask questions before he's at that stage

I'm really excited about the breeding pen construction!

You are being a good general/owner contractor/forewoman....and it sounds like he is good to work with, so I'm sure it'll all work out.

Thanks for taking us along on the ride, so exciting to see a new building go up even if it's in the wake of disaster...and not my new building ;-)

Yes they do work fast! They are working on the doors over the weekend, and next week electrical and breeding/brooding pens!

Any suggestions for type of paint to cover OSB easily? That's our job. I don't mind painting.

Here are the workers taking a lunch break. Henry is their supervisor

This is a photo that should be framed and put in the barn on a memory wall :). Happy workers getting your barn rebuilt :D
