The recent cold snap ravaged my animals

We lost an older rabbit last year when this cold first moved in, even though he had food and straw in his cage. The other 4 are living in my basement.

Lost my first bird today

one of my guines. All 4 had frost bitten feet even though they are in a coop under the heat lamp. Found the bird today. I don't know if it was a female or male, but one of the other guines was huddled up against it. They were all eating and drinking. *sigh*

I can imagine rabbits, and frostbite to a comb, but a goat?? freezing to death? how does that happen?

If the goat was 14 and maybe had other under lying health issues perhaps it would have helped to give it some FOOD and SHELTER.It is one thing for something old and sick to pass away during the winter,It is quite another for a goat to FREEZE TO DEATH.

It was -36 f here mid Jan. The goats, chickens and ducks were all fine. Fresh water lots of food and all is ok. I think it is how fast the cold comes in. They get used to the cold when it is gradual. Our Naragansett turkey did not even bother going into the coop we have for her.

Oops! just realised that you are all talking in Fahrenheit and I am talking in Celsius/centigrade. 30 degrees here would be about 95 degrees F.
