Its a nosey little thing and very fiesty. Defiant as well. Funny fact is that Helen is an EE and she hatched silkie eggs.
Helen is a natural momma :D

There was a second egg that hatched that the RIR stepped on during hatching but it died. She stepped on the head. Stupid hen, had to lay her eggs in the nest that Helen was incubating in! So I moved Helen, surviving chick, and her eggs into the brooder in my living room. Today a third egg hatched with a little imbilical bleeding. That chick was a bit weak so I gave it a few drops of sugar water and its perking up now :D

Progress report: My chicks are absolutely fine you can't tell them apart. One is a refrig egg the other isn't. They are active and adorable!! Currently they are feathering out at 3 weeks of age. :)

I put them under a hen when the fires came and we lost power. the hen was not broody, but was in nest to lay, when I gave her 12 eggs she decided to stay. some hens still would lay when she would get off nest, I don't like to move them because I don't want them to stop being broody. I marked the eggs and removed any new ones. Well some hen came and ate 2 messed all the eggs, some eggs didn't make it I wiped them down and saved 2 from the week in eggs and 3 from the batch due the next week. the 2 are pipped today due tomorrow the rest next week. after the 2 pip out, I will put in these eggs

They came from a fridge of a health food store. they are local. the little one is mine- but I don't think the roo is up yet. that is why I bought these. they are warming in incubator.

I put them under a hen yesterday. and these from a diff. farm fridge today..diff hens.

oh and here's the hatchers...
