Not technically new - hear me out!

I’m Charlie. My first post here was in April of 2020, I had a beautiful mixed flock of chickens that I had raised myself. I love animals, I also was living with six precious dogs at the time.

After about a year of having my birds, I had basically stopped posting here by then, tragedy struck. The chicken gate was not bolted shut, and our incredibly intelligent German Shepherd was able to open the latches following.

All of my hens were gone, buried in various places on the property. I collected them, and dug their graves. My poor Melvin. I kept my coop still, empty and waiting for the right time.

Thor, the culprit, didn’t know any better. He passed away this last summer of old age and with that I finally felt comfortable to start again.

It’s our new beginning ! I hope to go big. I started with 4 hens from an ad on Craigslist, been with me for a year or more now. Added 3 severely neglected backyard hens from a neighbor, healing nicely for the past few months but waiting on the next molt to get those feathers back. Recently, added four more girls from a man who was no longer able to free range them or keep them from fighting. I got five babies as well, about four weeks ago. Unfortunately we’re looking at 4/5 being cockerels. Could be the start of some breeding projects though!

Finally, I’ve added Cortunix quail to my home. I currently have three 7 week old quails, and 8 at what is probably 5 weeks old by this point.

I hope to get back to posting plenty!

and thank you so much for reading if you’ve made it this far. have a lovely day/afternoon/night.

please feel free to share pictures of your pets <3 I would love to see them
