Now I just need to come up with some rhodebar chicks, or eggs to try some of these crosses. or spend a couple of years remaking them.

I got some eggs ordered from PappaBrooder. I've heard good things about his stock, so it should be a good starting point. That is if the post office is kind to me and doesn't destroy them on the way here.
I am just checking into Rhodebars. I'm so sorry to hear of this occurrence, it must be heartbreaking. I can't/won't pay GFF prices for the breeds they have, it's just nuts (and apparently the pricing has gone down with day old pullets at $49 each). I am getting some hatching eggs that were inexpensive along with some Isbar eggs. I'm new to hatching and have never done shipped eggs so at least I didn't pay a lot for these eggs.Since I have no confidence that any of my "Rhodebars" are purebred (because of the olive green egg), I couldn't in good conscience sell hatching eggs or chicks - even if the other two hens lay brown eggs. So I'm going to try to re-home my rooster, and I'll put the hens with my laying flock. I am done with Rhodebars and won't breed them. If any of you live near Nashville and want the rooster - you're welcome to him. I've sent GFF an email asking for a refund. I bought my hens when they were $99 each - which is a lot for a hen that's not purebred. I'm very disappointed after waiting so eagerly since March for them to start laying. I will stick with my legbars, Swedish flower hens and Araucanas. Sooooooo not happy about this!![]()
Quote: Strange thing.... I got some chicks from her and they lay a nice BROWN EGG. No blue color at all! I have an unrelated roo over them so I hope he is not carrying the green egg genes. Blue eggs are DOMINATE so I know the girls just didn't get that from the dams or sires. They autosex really well at hatch too. I have not had any issues sexing them, I am selecting for darker pullets and roos to improve the autosexing in the next gen.
My roo is about 9 months old and is a good size roo but I can't help you with a good age to harvest roos.... I just don't do that yet, don't have the space or time to grow them out.
