The Rhodebar thread!

Ok... "type" and breeding questions for those doing breeding projects...

I have 2 groups I am pulling from to create 4 breeding pens (planning for a few months from now).
Group 1 is the result of a RB cock over F1 hens and the keepers are (hopefully) homozygous wildtype with correct barring - iow, purebred RB.
Group 2 is the result of an F1 cock over RIR and the keepers are (hopefully) heterozygous wildtype and single barred.
So question is... is it expected that type would be better in group 2?
And... What breeding combinations would you put together at this point? (I have a plan but would love outside perspective ).

Mathematically group two has more of your RIR blood in it. RIR has great type. I will place my vote on it having the better type.

It will be interesting to see how some of these feather out. This fella was one of the darker ones at hatch. Definitely more typey... and at least no black on breast. But lighter than I thought he'd be. Course they'll change a lot. Fun to watch them progress. The pullets are very dark and consistent and the cockerels vary more in color.

Thats double Barring for you.. which is good as he will produce autosexing chicks... umm I really like the single barred ones.. seems like Red its one of my favorite colors...

This sure has been a quiet thread lately. Wanted to post a pic of one of my little cockerels who just came out of the bator.
Ive been thinking that since the first F1 males could didnt display the headspot(e+/eWh heterozygous) that this could be a e+/e+ B/b+ male would be nice if you could keep us updated on the status of its gender and barring

This chick "could be" the cockerel above. He is in that group so will look similar regardless. I'll check leg color tomorrow and let you know. Genetically he has to be double barred but could be either homozygous or heterozygous wildtype. My gut says homozygous. He is one of 5 cockerels in my pen of 20 that I sorted as potentially homozygous wildtype from four different hatches. In that keeper pen are 15 pullets and 5 cockerels. So these 20 are my potential breeders from a back cross of a Rhodebar cock over my best F1 hens. Now... the current 3 hatches in the bator are an F1 cock over rir hens. Those should start hatching Tuesday. I'm planning to sort into 2 groups at first (the obvious hetero wildtype and the homo wheaten). From the hetero wildtype half will be single barred and half will have no barring. The single barred, hetero wildtype well be my keepers. This will comprise group 2 described above, likely with better type, to cross with the first group above.
