The Rhodebar thread!

from that pic I can see both of them are lacking at least one copy of the Columbian Restrictor gene Co(pure Rhodebars are Co/Co) so going by that alone you can tell they are of poor Quality(phenotypically).. but they seem to be good chickens anyways and you dont plan in breeding them, so have fun with them and enjoy them

these Males are the product of another Rhodebar improvement project(Good Quality Rhodebar Male mated to exceptionally good Type RIR Female) so they are not related to RedRidge Farms line But they are following the same process and same advise

F1 Males..

Nice males! Are they your males? If so how do you like the weather wrap that is around the cage/run? I am sure that is far better than plastic.

Yea they are males. I love the weather wrap. It's stronger and I reuse it. I fold it up and put away when I do kot need it . It really does a good job blocking the wind!

I had some of that stuff left over from building my shop. I had enough to drape over my rabbit hitch and screwed two 2x4's at the bottom... It lasted all winter and kept the rabbits warm and provided enough light to keep it light in there... They are some very nice birds..

they are not my males, they are Michael and Jessie birds, I just posted them here to people to see just how beautiful they look while only beeing F1s they acquire so many good traits from their RIR thanks to the good Rhodebar line he started, if he crosses back to RIR again like Sheri is doing then the BC1 type will be as good or very close to his exceptionally good RIR

Here are the 2 chicks we hatched a few weeks ago.

We also picked up a pair of extra roos (went for 1 and couldnt decide between the lighter and darker one). This all started with a hen going broody, the breeder only having rhodebar hatching eggs and then getting interested in the genetics and my daughter joining 4h (we have other egg layers, but hadnt thought about purebreds). We also picked up 4 Ameraucana chicks (1 black, 3 blue). I guess I will be making some breeding pens in the spring and see what happens!! If nothing else, I will have more eggs to sell!

Here are the boys:
