The Rhodebar thread!

I don't understand the post with the genetic info. I do know that these eggs came from a Rhodebar ONLY pen. There were not any other breeds. The parents came from Greenfire Farms. How could there be a non-Rhodebar out of a Greenfire Farm Rhodebar pen?

some GFF stock are not known to be 100% pure. even if they say so.

If you read through this thread you will see that there are people with GFF Rhodebar stock that are turning out not to be as pure as GFF claims they are, including birds laying blue and green eggs. Rhodebars lay brown eggs.

:) nicalandia... you go tell it like it is :)
Yes he does, even if it hurts. I know when he broke the news to me about the lack of e+ in my Rhodebar project, my heart sank, but just the same he's been a great help with other projects I like his frankness , saved me tons of time on a wasted project.

Thanks as always niclandia

So how would someone go about getting a purebred Rhodebar. I thought Greenfire was supposed to be a really good source for rare breed chickens and in fact, aren't they the ones who have originally imported many of the rare breeds we have here in the States now??? I thought they were the original and only reliable source for the really rare breeds....???

not as Reliable as one wish they were, many Cream Legbar lines coming from them have some issues, but some are very good.

I guess with them is luck. just order from them again and hope this time you get good quality birds and go from there..OR there are other Rhodebar breeders here who have good quality stock, get in contact with them, Papabrooder has good quality birds.

They are a good source most of the time, but even in this thread there are people who ordered Rhodebars directly from them that were sub-par to the point of not even Rhodebars. You can look on Ebay and Rare Breed Auctions and see where people are selling "Rhodebars" that lay green and blue eggs. Rhodebars should lay "tinted" eggs a brownish color. Obviously they have had likely Cream Legbar introduced accidentally (which can easily happen). Regardless they chose not to make it right with some here in this thread. Some birds that they bring over are also in the works through other breeders here as well, just not as much advertised.

They do have some beautiful rare breeds and do much good for poultry fanciers, but anything but brown eggs goes directly against the SOP of the breed and therefore can not be pure. I would not count out the chicks you have, you will likely still be able breed to purity. Most on this thread actually want to breed the Rhodebar to darker colors of red and more like the SOP.
