The Rhodebar thread!

Interesting. The other ones (females) look just like my Rhodebars from GFF. I hope yours are pure Rhodebars. Apparently, some of mine are not. You can see pics of mine a couple pages back. So sorry about the two that didn't make it....

The 2 rhodebar males that didn't survive shipment were pretty trampled, however I did see some brighter yellow fluff that is similar to your light colored chicks. I have 1 female that is much lighter than the others. Also some of my females chipmunk stripe is broken on the neck.

Chickens, like all living things, show much individual variation, and frequently those variations are imperfections.

I wonder if they ever cull chicks for imperfections? I think many breeders would instantly cull a chick that didn't match the others. Odd to sell a chick that obviously doesn't look the same as the others they pack in your box.

Thanks for that info and you make a very good point! Either way, I will keep the females for their egg laying and continue to study their genetics. I am so clueless about chicken genetics and need to take a "Chicken Genetics for Dummies" class, I think.

Your chicks look beautiful and healthy. I got mine switched over to FF today and am hopeful that this will only improve their health and condition. They sure are gobbling it up! Good luck with your babies and keep us posted. I'd like to see how both of our babies develop and color out.

Im using welsmuur because i've done research that shows u used welsummmers in a different experiment along side rir in another and before u ask the cuckoo is because when u breed a cuckoo bird to solid color like a welsummer a barred color pattern aperrs

Im using welsmuur because i've done research that shows u used welsummmers in a different experiment along side rir in another and before u ask the cuckoo is because when u breed a cuckoo bird to solid color like a welsummer a barred color pattern aperrs

welsumers were used to bring the wildtype e+ allele(for autosexing) but thats all, thats all, the Barred rock were used to bring the sex linked barring gene(for autosexing) thats all, thats all.

the Rhodebar should look and act just like a barred Rhode Islande Red. you cant expect to have a quality Rhodebar using anyother Dixies sorry, it just wont happen

I've got two Rhodebar eggs from papa brooder in the incubator, both have veining, tomorrow is day 7!

How are those eggs coming along Kristen? I saw papa brooder has hatching eggs for sale on e bay. How did you get yours? Might try some rb hatching eggs myself come spring.

I candled them again this morning, and both have movement! I was concerned about one because I think it had a meat-spot when I got it, a small dark floaty spot. It's been interesting, the spot has been pushed to the edge, and a small "pocket" was built around it. It looks like a small secondary air cell. I'm still not holding my breath that it will make it to hatching, everything I read says that meat-spots and blood-spots don't hatch.

I got them on a swap thread here on BYC. They were part of a Hen's Choice swap.
