I instantly thought Mereks, GFF vacinates though. The females that past were never thriving 100%. I know not all birds can be perfect & just assumed they were not ment to make it. However the male was always perfect until last night. He is in a large wire dog crate away from others with medicated water & he is drinking it. It's so hard when there are no other symptoms. I am watching closely for anything to give more clues. If he doesn't rebound neocropsy is at the top of my list. If he has something that puts my flock at risk I would be sick! My rhodebars have never been near any other birds thankfully.

The Marek's vaccine does not create immunity, merely inhibits the growth of the tumors. Birds can still be infected, become carriers, and die from the disease even if vaccinated.

QUESTION: if i get a Rhodebar Roo and breed it over a New Hampshire Red will their chicks be Hampbars?

The short answer... no..... the long years of work answer... that's a good start.... what makes a RIR so red is not found in a New Hampshire so you would get females that were darker red like a Rhodebar and yes you would get females that are colored like a Hampbar... the work is getting a good male bird that is of good type and color and then breeding him to good egg laying female Hampbars of good type.... is not done over night but yes it can happen....

yes that is correct if the Rhodebar is good... you would get good females.. but the males would not be... males need two copies of the barring gene... with a Rhodebar male over RIR females... you would get males that carry only one copy.. and would not breed true....

Most people that want to breed these simply will not cull birds that are not to type or of good color... do some searching on Rhodebars... the ones that have been raised in the UK... Rhodebars should be red... all over with some black in the tail and sickle feathers and in the hackle of the neck they could have a little barred ticking....

a good rhodebar female... but again if you have a great... male.... you can get make all the good females you want...

Yes sure... just need to set a large number of eggs... and then cull to get what you want... and you have to know what to look for... you need to know at what level you are at... if you are starting from scratch .. a RIR male over a barred rock female... the male from this will look allot different than the male you get when breeding him over a RIR female... with the females you want ones that are barred and of good type
this is a Hampbar male with a single gene for barring....



this is one of his sons that has two genes for barring and is correct...
