The Rhodebar thread!

Got my rhodebar eggs from pappa brooder today. he sent me a couple extras and they all arrived in one piece. there's someone who knows how to ship eggs.

Now hopefully the cold weather didn't hurt them.

I'm just curious, Has anyone here hatched eggs that have gotten cold, not frozen or damaged but definitely chilled? I'm just wondering what effect the temperature in the post office mail storage room for a few hours might have had on my hatch rate,. Because the mail truck drops off mail at the PO at 4:00 am in an unheated back room and the post master doesn't get there until 8:00am

We hatched 12 SPPR last year that the PO left on the front porch with no notice in 35-40 degrees weather and we had a pretty good hatch.
that's good news, I'll cross my fingers and hope they do well. This is my first experience with shipped eggs.

This is strange. With in hours of setting the eggs in the incubator 2 of them exploded. Doesn't it take a bit longer than that for bacteria to get established and cause a buildup of gas? Odd thing though there wasn't a bad smell, just a pop sound and one right after the other with a crack right around the middle and leaking insides.. Does this bode Ill for the rest of the eggs?

when i was hatching production type white leghorns, i put about 10 eggs for 24 hours in a fridge(not freezing) and 8 of them hatched without any issues, now studies have been conducted on other birds and some eggs have hatch after being frozen, seem like egs prefer low temperatures better than hot temperatures(above ideal hatching temp)
