The Rhodebar thread!

Bottom two are HRIR just out of the bator... top one is an F1 who is a few days old (RB cock over RIR hen)...

Ok, I'm back. Posted my Rhodebars about a month ago, thinking the light one may be a boy, but wasn't sure because it was feathering out as much as the chipmunk one, and, also had a bit ..tiny bit, of a chipmunk marking on it's back. I'm pretty sure they are both pullets now.

Interesting. I have a pullet that looks just like yours, with a laced/partridge look vs barring. It also was thought to be a cockerel by the person who hatched them, but had light chipmunk stripes. And feathered in with the same pattern (not pattern on the feathers, but where the feathers first grew vs fuzz) as my 2 definite pullets vs the 3 cockerels I had. She is a she, and still has that odd pattern on her feathers. I posted some photos of mine earlier in this thread and will post some updated photos when I get them.

Where did yours come from?

I got some eggs from DMRippy. I also got more from someone else. I am just keeping one female from that hatch, she looks like she is going to be a more dark red than these. These are pretty girls. Love different in my flock for a change. I've been having a lot of RIR's, as you can see in the photo, I have a couple in there with these girls. I am just hoping that these Rhodebars lay as well as the RIR's. Or close. I am not into this for show, or worry that I have a perfect Rhodebar, just wanted something that looked different, and lays well. I like these girls. :)
Have to ask though, which one are you seeing with a lace look. In person they look barred. Not seeing lacing? Either way, I like them. :)

Ok, went back and looked at the photos..ha..the light one seems to have a bit of a lace look doesn't she?

Yeah, the light one in the bottom right corner of the second photo I quoted. My birds also came from DMRippy, via someone else who hatched the eggs. She will go into my layer flock, I think she's going to be very cool looking when she matures and if she lays well I'm happy. I'll be keeping 1 of the 3 cockerels I have, and the other 2 pullets and using them to breed more auto-sexing chicks. I'm not looking to show, have zero interest, but do want good auto-sexing characteristics

Same here. I just wish I could have roosters. I am keeping a RIR cockeral..Got myself one of those collars that keeps them from crowing as loud, or as often, Not a shock collar, but it keeps them from intaking as much air, so they have a softer crow. At least that's what we hope for. He hasn't crowed yet, he is in the pictures, but can't see his face. Also hoping that he is a sweet boy..can't have a mean rooster. Too many grandchildren around. I wonder what I would get if I were to put him and a Rhodebar or two together. hmmmm....
