The Rhodebar thread!

Penny... My female F1 (except for a few having a little more black tips) look like my RB females at hatch. I'm not convinced you don't have barring yet. If we had to be picky about half of my females have white tips and half do not. I have a side pic of each of the 8 F1 Females from first hatch. 8 pics is photo intensive but I don't mind posting them if you want. Could be educational and we could see what Marvin thinks. I will download today (they are still on my phone)

Darn I wish I could remember your hatch dates. .. Would you mind reminding me and I will put them on my hatching calendar... It might help me compare since your first hatch was ahead of mine.

Fyi... That oldest male I have? He thinks he is tuff stuff. I reminded him we have chicken butcher day twice a year... we'll see if he paid attention. ;-)

First hatch started on Feb 2nd and second hatch March 3rd. Ours are really close in age.

Penny

Mine are Feb 27, Mar 14, Mar 29.
So your first hatch is more than 3 weeks older than mine.
I only had 4 in my 2nd hatch and I didn't think any of the 4 were anything special so haven't bothered posting. They were neither really dark or really light.

Sorry, first hatch started Feb 10th. You might end up with some barred females out of that second hatch since they weren't anything special, lol.

Sheri my females show white tint on their wing tips but that changes to more of a tanish color as they are growing older, and with the leg color being different then the males I am not so sure if they are going to have barring. I was looking at my younger hatch and I can see a difference in leg coloring. Males having very fleshy colored legs and females having more of a greenish/greyish tint to their legs.

OK... here are 8 F1s that I'm assuming are pullets (there are more, but these were the darkest 8).
You can see leg color in some of these pics too. I also have a head shot of each one, but won't bore you with those. I'm assuming at this age it's the feathering you are curious about.
Ok... what do you see

black

blue

green

orange

pink

purple

red

yellow

And here's one of the cockerels who was lighter at hatch...

Here is a shot of all the lighter F1s... I had taken out the group of 8 darker, so snapped this shot of those remaining.
The other pics here taken outside, this was under cover in the barn, so shades vary, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the Pic, this male looks wheaten, did he looked wheaten at hatch? and as for the Pullets, all of them look barred so far, let see how they mature, I assume all of the dark females you are keeping are the wildtype looking ones right?
