The Rhodebar thread!

Well he is pretty. What is he about 6-7 months old? It will be nice to see how he matures type wise. If he were mine I would put him over my best RB hens, those that are barred not laced. If he is single barred you will get some single bars but you will (should) get some double bars. I would also put him over the best HRIR hens I could get.

Penny

He is 5 months old. Hatched late Nov. 2013. The two barred hens in my photos are the only two Rhodebar hens I have right now.

Does anybody know of an HRIR breeder in California or Arizona? I live near San Diego. I could have a few chicks shipped to me, but I'd rather try to find something 5-12 months old and go pick it up. I don't want to deal with shipping eggs since I haven't had the best luck in that department except with a recent Orloff purchase.

I have yet to see an e+/B Autosexed male this light not showing a headspot..

here I show you the product of the Wybar(Autosexing Wyandotte) project I am Helping wiht, this very light chick is one of the first double barred wybar males(barred females do exist ofcourse)

this male while very pale(could be Silver wybar) it show a distinctive headspot

First chick from my pair of Rhodebars. At least from the hen, they were in a pen with other roosters and this egg was from the first week they were isolated.
It looks like a RB pullet to me, but maybe I wishfully biased.

In any case, it's a cute chick.

Very true. I decided to hatch the first weeks eggs (2) to test the hen's fertility. I hope this is a pullet, then whether she turns out to be pure RB or not, she'll still find a home in the laying flock. Next week's hatch should be more definitive.

If she is a she, and a RB, she is lighter than the ideal, right? I'm trying to become aware of the best chicks as they hatch so I know what to breed from. I hope to hatch a lot this year and keep all the pullets for laying, then select the best for next year's breeding pen.

yeah she seems to be too light, now what other roosters you had? if you have any silver rooster then she may be the product of a sexlink gold/silver cross
